CA Intros Three SaaS Offerings

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

CA has announced three new SaaS (News - Alert) offerings across its Enterprise IT Management and Governance portfolios, offerings described by company officials as designed to help customers “maximize the business value of their software implementations.”

The new services from CA’s On Demand Business Unit are: CA Clarity PPM (News - Alert) On Demand, CA GRC Manager On Demand and CA Instant Recovery On Demand. CA plans to continue expanding its roster of SaaS products, company officials say.

Also this week, CA (News - Alert) announced the results of a global study indicating that enterprise IT organizations “are losing their experienced mainframe personnel to retirement just as their use of the mainframe is projected to grow significantly.”

The study, conducted by TheInfoPro in September and early October, surveyed 270 senior IT executives from Fortune 2000 companies around the world. All respondents had applications running on the mainframe platform.

The study found that 80 percent of respondents have mainframe staff eligible for retirement either now or within two years. It also revealed that mainframe spending – which had been in decline over the past two years – is now projected to rise.

CA On Demand products are designed to provide access to a range of products from their enterprise IT management and governance portfolios, with the business proposition of “improving IT economics with pay-as-you-go subscription pricing and reduced infrastructure needs,” company officials say.

Here’s how CA diagrams business center management within the enterprise IT management context:

CA Clarity PPM On Demand is a SaaS version of the industry Project and Portfolio Management product for enterprise-wide governance of IT expenses, staffing, investments and projects. It’s used by the Chicago Department of Public Health, the nation’s second largest municipal health department – hey, Chicago’s still second in something – which uses the product to help manage their $165 million in annual grants.

The CDPH is using CA Clarity PPM On Demand to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their grant processes, CA officials say, while helping to “reduce the loss of approximately $10 million per year in funds incurred in their manual tracking of grants.”

CA Governance, Risk and ComplianceManager On Demand is a SaaS version of CA’s tool for managing risk and compliance initiatives across the enterprise, including a centralized system to manage and store corporate policies, improve compliance with those policies and manage the risks associated with non-compliance, while accelerating end-user adoption and time to value.

Finally, CA Instant Recovery On Demand is a SaaS version of CA’s business continuity and disaster recovery technology, described by company officials as “particularly relevant for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses faced with the challenges of maintaining non-stop business operations and protecting critical business applications and data with limited resources and budget.”
