Egnyte reportedly
says that its newly released file server solution will turn Netbooks into a mobile office.
Netbooks are kind of ‘Portable PC’ mini laptops. Their compact size and low cost have drawn customers, but their basic feature set, limited performance and small hard drive have made them unsuitable to process complex office functions.
Egnyte’s new file server for Netbooks will provide unlimited online storage, as well as the ability to easily and securely access and share files, anytime and anywhere. Small and medium business users will now get a compact mobile office which is also cost-effective and efficient.
The company provides on-demand file server solutions for small businesses and professionals. Egnyte is a software-as-a-service cloud storage application, providing the only single, integrated, on-demand solution to the three most common technology challenges facing every small business: data storage, information sharing, and computer back-up.
“Right now, Netbooks (shown right) are currently seen as underpowered notebooks used primarily for surfing the web and emailing, but they have much greater potential,” said Rob Enderle, Principal Analyst for the
Enderle Group. “As solution providers like Egnyte deliver added functionality such as on-demand and unlimited online storage, the netbook has the ability to evolve into a vital business tool for mobile workers across numerous industries.”
At a time of a major global economic crisis companies are looking for ways to reduce the activities of a physical office and encouraging mobile office like settings. And this low cost storage solution would definitely help them establish business-class storage functionality, according to officials.
The file servers will be cloud based and well protected. Users need not have to worry of unauthorized access of their data. Because the files reside on the virtual drive, if a computer is lost or stolen the data remains secure.
Egnyte says that Netbooks will only become more attractive to customers as mobile business becomes cheap. They only charge about $15 per month per user which is an advantageous offer particularly for small businesses or mobile users who want the benefits of a big company solution.
