Aladdin Unveils HASP SRM SaaS Pass

Making use of its award-winning HASP SRM solution, Aladdin Knowledge Systems has unveiled Aladdin HASP SRM SaaS (News - Alert) Pass.

As Internet-based learning continues to gain momentum, companies and universities often find the need to cater to their customers in a unique manner. They need location-specific and sometimes machine-specific ways to ensure that the content reaches the right person.

Aladdin claims that by offering login access to software-on-demand only from specific, pre-activated machines, its SaaS Pass will provide high levels of security and controlled access to the hosted application and end-user data.

To communicate over the Internet with the service provider's Web application, the SaaS Pass solution makes use of a client application, which it installs on the end-user's PC. Since this application will be pre-activated for the specific PC (using a HASP SRM software key), it can send the user name and password to the Web application and get it validated.

Laila Arad-Allan, vice president of the Software DRM Business Unit at Aladdin Knowledge Systems (News - Alert), said, “Many of our customers offering SaaS cite shared username/password login information as a significant source of revenue loss. By integrating HASP SRM into their SaaS offering, ISVs can reclaim lost revenues by ensuring that only authorized users on authorized machines access their on-demand applications and data.”

SaaS Pass can also take care of security aspects of user data, says Aladdin. Along with the conventional user passwords, it also uses a server-generated, time-stamp validation string. This makes use of the HASP SRM AES 128-bit encryption engine and can integrate SaaS while saving money and manpowe.

To enable the SaaS Pass functionality, the company also provides two additional components to HASP SRM, namely, the SaaS Pass Login Application and the SaaS Pass Web Service Module.

Under the terms of a recently announced partnership with SafeNet, the company will strengthen its positions in Software Rights Management (SRM) and Authentication. Upon completion of the proposed transaction, Aladdin will become a portfolio company of Vector Capital.
