Persistent Launches SaaS Initiative for ISVs for Oracle Platform
By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor
Outsource product development provider Persistent Systems has launched a new Software as a Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) enablement initiative designed for independent software vendors (ISVs).
The idea behind the program is to let ISVs leverage Persistent's SaaS Competency Center and Migration Services to seamlessly migrate their applications onto the Oracle (News - Alert) Platform, according to Srikanth Sundararajan, COO of Persistent Systems.
"In today's highly competitive and turbulent global marketplace, time to market and reliability are critical differentiators," said Sundararajan.
SaaS is a model of software deployment where an application is hosted as a service provided to customers across the Internet. The idea is to eliminate the need to install and run the application on the customer's own computer. In the long-term this eases the pressure of software maintenance, operation and support.
The Oracle Platform includes Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle VM. It is a comprehensive, open and integrated set of technologies that allow ISVs to build, deploy and manage SaaS and cloud-based applications.
The Persistent model is designed to allow short, medium and long-term SaaS deployment goals to be realized cost-effectively, and with minimum risk.
"Persistent offers an array of services for companies at all stages of a typical SaaS maturity model and can help bring applications to market faster, while retaining high quality.
Persistent's SaaS expertise and service offering on the Oracle stack includes:
-
Rapid development of metadata-driven, customizable, service-oriented applications with rich Web2.0 style UI using Oracle Application Development Framework
-
Deployment of the application on a scalable, grid platform comprising of Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware & Oracle VM
-
Service level agreement (SLA) modeling and enforcement with a top-down application management approach using Oracle Enterprise Manager
-
Security for hosted on-demand applications and address privacy, compliance and regulatory concerns using Oracle Identity Management and Oracle Advanced Security
-
Development of operational reports and in-context actionable insight using Oracle Business Intelligence
-
Building comprehensive data and business process integration using Oracle SOA suite
-
Usability Engineering & Performance Engineering
“We are excited to combine our proven SaaS expertise and our comprehensive experience with Oracle technologies to help ISVs migrate to the Oracle technology stack," said Sundararajan.
In addition, Persistent offers an SaaS delivery model for ISVs in today's software applications and services market. Sundararajan says the company has established a dedicated SaaS Competency Center to provide the underlying infrastructure for development and deployment of SaaS services. Based in Pune, India, the Persistent SaaS Competency Center focuses on the following:
-
Assessing product and feature fit for SaaS enablement -- Architecture, Scalability, Usability, and Security
-
Implementing and managing SaaS-based product offerings, including operational management and metering
-
Leveraging its development framework for rapid and cost-effective deployment
