Threatmetrix Announces Release of Enhanced SaaS Fraud Prevention Solution

ThreatMetrix, a provider of real-time online fraud prevention and device identification technology, recently announced the release of ThreatMetrix Fraud Prevention 2.0. The solution is offered as software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and the upgrade comes as a result of the company’s shift from Australia to the United States at the end 2008.

ThreatMetrix Fraud Prevention 2.0 provides instant risk assessment and prevents fraudsters 'at the gate,' by providing a risk-score so that a customer can gauge the degree of danger.

The new version features more than 2 dozen enhancements, all targeted at thwarting the moves of cyber criminals even before the first fraudulent transaction is committed.

The patent pending device identification technology from ThreatMetrix provides unmatched identification and online transaction computer intelligence by utilizing a real-time fraud engine, customer-defined rules and global fraud-pattern recognition capabilities.

Cyber criminals have displayed an ever increasing proficiency at dodging fraud prevention solutions and their preferred tools are botnets and stealth proxies. Fraudsters use bot-infected computers to flood users with spam to perform phishing attacks and, port scanning for network loopholes. Computer monitoring by ThreatMetrix indicated that five percent of the devices were communicating back to a command-and-control host, of which 98 percent were in to malicious activities. This magnitude of bot activity poses a high degree of risk to merchants, financial institutions and consumers of credit card data.

ThreatMetrix is working against cyber crime perpetrated through bot-infected computers. Apart from TCP/IP packet monitoring ThreatMetrix can also perform proxy penetration to unlock a device's true IP and Geo location and check its reputation against a ThreatMetrix Device Intelligence Network, which is involved in tracking of 12 million live compromised computers at any point in time.

"Why just detect fraud when you can prevent it? Our customers can stop fraud before it happens with our on-demand offering that delivers device fingerprinting, proxy-piercing geo-location and botnet reputation scored in real-time. The latest release adds features that give customers more flexibility and control over online fraud to help keep them ahead of increasingly sophisticated and organized cyber criminals," said Reed Taussig, president and chief executive officer of ThreatMetrix.
