California School District Selects Pearson's PowerSchool Premier

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Westside Union Elementary School District in Quartz Hill, Calif., has selected Pearson’s PowerSchool Premier as its new Web-based student information system.

Pearson officials said that under the SASI Customer First program, Westside will be migrating from Pearson’s SASI system to PowerSchool.

The program offers existing SASI customers access to PowerSchool Premier with no-charge license fees. PowerSchool will serve Westside Union Elementary School District’s nearly 9,000 students.

Officials said that PowerSchool will serve as the information backbone for Westside Union Elementary School District.

PowerSchool will also provide access to secure, real-time, student information through a Web browser – effectively creating an interactive dialogue between parents, students, and teachers.

“After looking at the competition, it was obvious that Pearson had the best student information system on the market,” said Suzanne Banks, Westside Union Elementary School District’s SIS Coordinator.

Banks said that PowerSchool Premier is user-friendly, Web-based, centralized, and fully customizable, four major features that the district was looking for.

“Couple that with their experience in the education field, and we believe they have met all of our needs. Communication between our parents and staff is so important today, and we feel that Pearson has provided the perfect tool we need to make this happen,” he added.

According to Banks, Westside was previously facing the limitations of an SIS that was based on old technology, which made it difficult to keep up with today’s needs.

PowerSchool Premier’s infrastructure is expected to promote and enable more effective communication between Westside’s staff and parents through the parent portal, bulletins, and email notifications.

“Through the SASI Customer First program, SASI districts like Westside already own the licenses to PowerSchool Premier. This brings state-of-the-art technology to districts at a lower cost investment,” said Paul Fletcher, president of the School Systems group of Pearson.

“We are very pleased to see districts like Westside take advantage of this program, as it ultimately paves the way to success for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.”
Pearson a major player in education and education technology recently had announced that West Branch Area School District in Morrisdale, Penn., has selected its PowerSchool Premier as its student information system.
