Column Technologies Chooses Savvis for Virtual Lab Solution

Savvis, Inc., a provider of outsourced internet infrastructure services for the enterprise, has reportedly signed an agreement with Column Technologies, a global provider of infrastructure management and business intelligence solutions, for using Savvis Virtual Lab solution for its customer testing.

Virtual lab allows accelerated time to market and reduces infrastructure costs typically associated with internal IT lab environments, thereby making it more cost-effective than competing for data center space.

Column Technologies was in need of a virtualized IT lab to develop and test its new software-as-a-service, or “SaaS (News - Alert)” offering prior to production.

"We now use the Savvis test and development environment for all our T&D and have achieved flexibility and speed to production benefits that would not have been possible using traditional IT infrastructure approaches," said Rob Yario, principle at Column Technologies, in a statement. "In addition, Column estimated a savings of 35 percent using Savvis' solution versus competitors and in-house options."

Savvis' cloud-based virtual lab solution is based on Skytap's Virtual Lab and this has enabled Column to deploy its SaaS offering in just days using the self-service interface. Within three months, Column expanded its usage to include test and development of its core in-house applications, Column's Customer's applications, training environments and development and quality assurance due to cost savings and time-to-value.

"Enhancing our services in test and development with Skytap, Savvis has the resources to quickly deploy a high performance Virtual Lab solution for Column Technologies," said Larry Steele, technical vice president, SaaS, Savvis, in a statement.
