Proofpoint Teams with Purewire to Deliver Joint SaaS E-mail and Web-Based Security

Proofpoint, Inc., a provider of unified e-mail security and data loss prevention solutions for enterprises, universities, government organizations and ISPs, has reportedly signed a go-to-market partnership with Purewire, Inc., yet another SaaS (News - Alert)-based secure Web gateway, for protecting enterprise customers against Web and e-mail threats.

As alliance partners, Proofpoint (News - Alert) and Purewire will focus in joint sales and marketing activities to bring enterprise customers security solutions that protect against e-mail and Web threats. Reportedly, both Proofpoint and Purewire solutions can be deployed entirely in the cloud or in a hybrid configuration with an on-premise messaging or Web gateway.

In continuation to this, Technical College System of Georgia has deployed their joint SaaS security services.

"Security threats are no longer confined to an e-mail inbox or Web site, but take advantage of both attack vectors," said Steven Ferguson, security engineer at Technical College System of Georgia.

"By working with Proofpoint and Purewire, we have been able to easily secure the online activity at each campus across the state and keep our users safe from increasingly sophisticated blended threats," added Ferguson.

As mentioned, Technical College System of Georgia has deployed the Proofpoint ENTERPRISE SaaS e-mail security solution to protect more than 10,000 inboxes. Proofpoint ENTERPRISE is a cost-effective and easy to use solution that delivers effective spam, virus and e-mail policy enforcement features.

Back in October of 2008, TCSG had deployed the Purewire Mobile for BlackBerry (News - Alert). Now it has selected the Purewire Web Security Service to protect its 44,000 users browsing the Web on campuses, and via laptops and BlackBerry devices.

By implementing these SaaS security solutions, Technical College System of Georgia officials said that it is able to protect against e-mail and Web-based malware, spam, spyware, phishing attacks, botnets and other messaging and Web-based threats for each of the 33 state technical colleges, adult literacy programs and other economic and workforce development programs.

"Our team has a rich history in the e-mail security industry, as well as a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated across Web and e-mail," said Mike Van Bruinisse, co-founder, president and chief executive officer at Purewire.

"Our channel partners are excited about being able to offer the Purewire and Proofpoint services as a joint offering, particularly since SaaS provides them a low barrier to entry, reduced costs and easier access to innovation." added Bruinisse.

"Purewire's SaaS-based Web security solutions are the perfect complement to our SaaS e-mail security, archiving and data loss prevention products," said Ramon Peypoch, executive vice president of business development for Proofpoint.
