Intermedia Selects Switch and Data for Microsoft Exchange Hosting Business



Switch and Data (News - Alert), a provider of network-neutral data center and internet exchange services reportedly announced that Intermedia, a hosted Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange provider, has selected its data site to support its Microsoft Exchange hosting business on the East Coast.


This new data site is expected to add geographic diversity and network resiliency to Intermedia’s business. It can now cater to the demands of SMBs which require hosted email solution with enterprise-grade performance efficiency and reliability.

According to Intermedia COO Jonathan McCormick, more than 200,000 business people rely on the company for their hosted Exchange mailboxes. 

“When selecting a colocation provider on the East Coast, Switch and Data’s site was the obvious choice as it offers Intermedia high-density power and a 99.999% SLA on our Exchange hosting business,” McCormick said. 

Intermedia is using Switch and Data’s TechSmart remote technical support services for helping in geographic expansion. TechSmart is employed in all Switch and Data colocation sites and it offers prescheduled technical support services besides offering its Rapid-Response Service.

“With our coast-to-coast presence, our customers can feel confident about the high-quality and reliable services we provide,” McCormick said.

TechSmart features remote hands services, complete equipment installations, power on and off, equipment reboots and equipment monitoring. Companies will be able to expand geographically besides reducing time and travel for the network support team.

Ernie Sampera (News - Alert), senior vice president and CMO for Switch and Data, said that Intermedia provides optimized infrastructure to customers and it has selected one of the East Coast data centers to host their latest environment. Switch and Data will provide Intermedia, with N+1 power, cooling, security and network connectivity in the East Coast facility besides providing 24/7 remote technical support. 

The Switch and Data site used by Intermedia is supplied with 20 megawatts of power with full N+1 redundancy for its UPS. It is equipped with generator and cooling infrastructure also. The company has interconnected this site with its existing data center network. This ensures access to over 400 networks as part of a highly dense interconnected data center network in North America, Switch and Data officials said.

Switch and Data provides data centers with power and Internet facilities catering to the needs of content companies, enterprises and communications service providers. It operates 34 sites in the United States and Canada.
