IDC Puts Websense on the Top of Web Security Market



A report from research firm IDC reportedly said that Websense leads the worldwide Web security market for the seventh consecutive year. The report also states that Websense (News - Alert) has also increased its share of the software-as-a-service segment of the Web security market in 2008.

 
Companies have started using Web 2.0 on a regular basis. This dynamic user–generated content can expose an organization to business risk. Many companies have reactive security measures in place,which are not always adequate. Websense said that its solutions provide proactive security for companies in the Web 2.0 world.
 
Websense provides software, appliance and software-as-a-service Web security that helps companies to fight against inbound threats and outbound threats. According to the IDC report, Websense captured 26.2 percent of the 2008 worldwide market growth for Web security software. The SaaS (News - Alert) Web security segment was also productive for the company as it grew 96.3 percent in this market.
 
“Websense has long been the global leader in Web security and we are now extending our leadership and experience in on-premise software to the SaaS and appliance segments of the overall Web security market with our quickly growing Hosted Web Security and Websense V10000 Web Security Gateway (News - Alert) appliance offerings," said John McCormack, president, Websense, in a statement.
 
According to IDC (News - Alert), the global Web security market to grow 12.3 percent from $1.4 billion in 2008 to $2.5 billion in 2013. The company states that organizations need real-time deep content analysis and classification, as well as data loss prevention technologies to balance the business value of Web 2.0 technologies with the security risks.
 
Recently, research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan has recognized Websense with two awards, the North American Product Innovation of the Year Award and the Global Content Filtering Products Market Leadership Award, for product innovation and marketing leadership respectively. Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) recognized the company with a Product Innovation Award for developing Web security products, such as “Websense Web Security Gateway.”
