WaveMaker 6.0 Cloud Development Platform Features Automated Multi-Tenant Support
By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
WaveMaker Software, a San Francisco, California-based provider of open source platform as a Service, or “Open PaaS,” reportedly announced the release of its latest WaveMaker 6.0, which is the first Web and cloud development platform with automated multi-tenant support.
The company’s WaveMaker software, in general, is available as an open source product that includes a development studio and a full deployment server. This open-source visual development platform was developed to make web and cloud development easy – by adopting browser-based, drag and drop style. This facilitates developers to prototype, develop as well as customize web applications, company officials said.
WaveMaker 6.0 is available under the Apache open source license, thereby offering the organizations with the features and benefits that are found in proprietary cloud development platforms, such as Force.com and Azure, at low cost.
James Governor, principal analyst at RedMonk, said that cloud computing is fast maturing, but one lagging indicator is developer tools designed specifically for cloud deployment.
“WaveMaker aims to change that with their 6.0 release, an open source toolset, and relationships with key players such as IBM (News - Alert), Amazon and RightScale,” Governor said.
According to WaveMaker Software, its new WaveMaker 6.0, which is built using open source standards, is the only cloud development platform to support deployment of any cloud, running on any Java server and connecting to any database. Moreover, WaveMaker's studio was built utilizing WaveMaker.
Phil Wainewright, industry analyst at Procullux Ventures, said that WaveMaker is easing the migration path for Java developers who want to bring existing application logic and data into a SaaS (News - Alert) environment, while still retaining control over their deployment options.
“With automated support for robust multi-tenant databases, WaveMaker 6.0 advances software developers even further along the path towards realizing the full benefits of the SaaS model,” Wainewright said.
And, WaveMaker's server-side security module automatically isolates all database access between the tenants or customers of a SaaS application, in order to provide automated multi-tenant support for the latest version, said officials in the release.
Apart from latest version of the cloud development platform, WaveMaker also announced a reference application, called EnterTweet, which demonstrates the capabilities of WaveMaker 6.0. This application combines a standard employee directory application with the Twitter web services API, in order to provide a customized Twitter client for the Enterprise.
The EnterTweet application was built as well as deployed as a multi-tenant application onto EC2 in less than 10 minutes, said WaveMaker Software officials.
Funded by Allegis Capital, Hummer-Winblad, Sippl Investments and Worldview Technology Partners, WaveMaker Software has an open source community of approximately 15,000 active developers.
