Hewlett-Packard Unveils HP CaaS Program

Palo Alto, California-based technology Company Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert), or “HP,” reportedly unveiled its “HP Communications-as-a-Service - HP CaaS” program, an initiative that will facilitate service providers to deliver small- and midsize businesses with cloud-based communications services. These services will be delivered on an outsourced basis and priced as a utility, like electricity, thereby facilitating telecom service providers to tap new $6.2 billion market opportunity.

With the help of HP CaaS, enterprises dealing with wireless, wireline and broadband services can grow their businesses by delivering SMBs with “one-stop shop” outsourcing for four different applications, such as unified communications, self-service IVR, IP contact centers and video surveillance.

Service providers can also create attractive bundles that may include all or any of the four “as a service” cloud communications solutions. Additional solutions from HP or third parties can also be included, say officials with HP.

HP CaaS facilitates SMBs to adopt a cloud approach and utility pricing. This in-turn provides various business benefits, such as access to advanced communications services; predictability of operating costs; eliminating the need for capital investment; and reducing the risk in adoption of new technology.

“Service providers and their SMB customers both benefit from the efficiencies of the HP CaaS program,” Ottavio Carparelli, director, communications and media solutions, HP, said in the release. “Services on demand enable SMBs to lower costs and increase flexibility, while service providers can generate new revenue from SMB customers.”

In addition, HP CaaS helps SMBs to shift valuable resources from IT to their core business. This helps in reducing complexity and costs. On the other hand, service providers can utilize CaaS to attract as well as retain customers and create steady income streams, thereby increasing overall revenue.

Officials with HP said that the foundation of the HP CaaS program is the new cloud-based HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS (News - Alert) that acts as a median between the communications services, the service provider’s operations and business support systems, such as OSS and BSS, and the SMB environment.

The HP Aggregation Platform streamlines operations for both the service provider and the SMB customer by automating processes such as provisioning, activation, mediation charging, revenue settlement and service assurance. Additionally, it provides an ecosystem for HP and third-party solutions in as-a-service domains such as infrastructure, IT management and business management.

According to HP officials, the company provides the consulting and integration services required to build the communications solutions into the HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS. Then, HP integrates the completed platform with the service provider’s OSS and BSS. Service providers can manage delivery of the on-demand services directly to the SMB with flexible, usage-based pricing from HP.

Service providers can offer the HP CaaS program to their SMB customers through a customized marketplace portal.
