Ovum Recognizes Cordy's as Best Vendor in SaaS BPM Platforms

Recent report from Ovum (News - Alert), a provider of value-added advisory and consulting services, has highlighted Cordys, a provider of software for business process innovation, as the best fit in an emerging category of business process management, or “BPM,” platforms.

BPM is a platform that allows organizations to address the challenges of today’s dynamic business environment, by offering significant opportunity for visibility, automation, efficiency gains and return-on-investment across a wide range of business needs and functions. With this technology, organizations can experience a continuous cycle of business process optimization.

Ovum’s report “SaaS (News - Alert) BPM - Silencing the Skeptics” states that a distinct category of BPM platforms is emerging and prominent among these are vendors who are capable of offering a comprehensive development and execution environment in the SaaS mode, and also maintain a functional focus on process management and process improvement.

According to Ovum’s analyst, features offered by such vendors include middleware capabilities, cloud provisioning and orchestration, with the option of multiple tenancy models. Moreover, there is a clear focus on the delivery of BPM capabilities and modeling tools on demand. Ovum believes that the BPM focus of these vendors sets them apart, and that Cordys proves the best fit for this category.

“The argument for SaaS BPM will become more compelling as processes move off-premise; as the number of external touch points in a process grows, it will become imperative for BPM to be able to customize the external services it consumes,” Ovum officials said.

Jan Baan, CEO at Cordys, said that the traditional BPM platforms are restricted to on-premise processes, while in today’s economy business processes extend beyond departments and companies. According to Baan, collaboration in the value chain using the online channel requires a new approach which, he believes, is made possible with the Cordys platform.

“The Cordys Business Operations Platform has been developed specifically for improving processes of every kind. Our platform touches areas that are executed outside an organization, such as SaaS customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM) and cloud infrastructure,” Baan added.

Ovum’s report has also recognized the importance of managing unstructured processes.

“The Case Management module in the Business Operations Platform (BOP) enables highly unstructured business processes to be managed alongside structured ones, enabling non-sequential, event-driven processing of case-based processes. Cordys BOP also supports patterns from case-oriented—that is, highly dynamic and loosely structured—processes,” Ovum officials said.
