New data from
Juniper Research has
revealed that annual revenues from mobile cloud applications will touch $9.5 billion by 2014.
This growth will be driven by the need for converged, collaborative services, the widespread adoption of mobile broadband services and the deployment of key technological enablers such as HTML5 and the Open Mobile Alliance’s Smart Card Web Server (SCWS).
The report from Juniper Research (

However, consumer-oriented applications will compose a larger proportion of total revenues, derived both from time-based subscriptions to services and advertising from cloud-based
social networks.
The mobile cloud applications and services report has warned that many enterprise customers still remain wary of entrusting their personal data to remote third-parties. According to report author Windsor Holden, it is imperative for cloud providers to ensure that access to and storage of customer data is secure. In addition, the procedures that the cloud providers put in place in this regard including data backup strategies need to be transparent to the customer.
The report has also found that cloud offers operators the opportunity to develop new revenue streams as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and PaaS providers. However, the lack of network capacity may continue to be a constraint on the growth of network-based services even after LTE (

The report forecasts enterprise and consumer revenues split by region, for both time based subscription mobile cloud income and advertising revenues as well as the number of mobile cloud enterprise users. These forecasts are accompanied by an in-depth examination of the impact of cloud on the mobile ecosystem and a detailed analysis of prevalent business models. The report also explores the means of deploying cloud-based applications and provides interviews with players across the cloud stack.
The report features a number of studies of cloud services and solution providers and also discusses the strategies being employed by companies as they seek to utilize their important assets to capitalize on the opportunities offered by the cloud. The report also details major drivers of the mobile cloud, such as the need for converged, synchronized and collaborative applications and the growing demand for remote data storage.
