City of Billings Awards Cassidian Contract for P25 Land Mobile Radio System

Cassidian Communications recently announced that it had signed an agreement with Billings, Montana to provide the City with a digital, trunked P25 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system. Based on the new multi-year agreement, Cassidian will now supply Billings with a turnkey radio communications solution for public safety, which includes hardware, software, system engineering, installation and maintenance through 2021.

Apart from this, Cassidian, an EADS (News - Alert) North American company, will also be responsible for upgrading the City's current emergency 9-1-1 call processing solution, which is the VESTA Standard system.

In a release, Christina Volek, a Billings city administrator, said, “Our agency was looking for solutions that would meet our present and future needs, as well as work seamlessly with our existing systems and equipment. Cassidian Communications responded to our request for bids with the CORP25 radio system, and we look forward to working with them now and into the future.”

Once the new, digital trunked CORP25 network is implemented, it will bring about spectral efficiency, add to user capacity, as well as provide the enhanced coverage necessary to support the City's growth, taking the City to a whole new level of mission critical public safety communications.

Rich Cagle, vice president of sales, Cassidian Land Mobile Radio, said, "We are delighted to bring a best-value, P25 radio solution to Billings, Montana. The addition of the interoperable and flexible CORP25 network will ensure that the City of Billings can provide its first responders with the best tools available to keep the community of Billings safe, and the taxpayers with the cost-savings they deserve in these challenging economic times.”
