Fujitsu Unveils Cloud Services as a Platform for Big Data

Fujitsu (News - Alert) Unveils Cloud Services as a Platform for Big Data

Fujitsu, a provider of information and communication technology (ICT)-based business solutions for the global marketplace, announced the launch of Data Utilization Platform Services using cloud services as a platform for big data.

The cloud service offering consists of four specific services: Data Management & Integration Services, Communications Control Services, Data Collection and Detection Services, and Data Analysis Services.

The service will gather, compile and integrate massive quantities of sensitive data. It will also combine the data with knowledge and process it using real-time processing or batch processing. The data can be used for such purposes as making future projections.

Data Utilization Platform Services offer a way to quickly, safely, and inexpensively get a planned system or business off the ground for companies that face the challenge of managing big data, according to company officials.

Data Utilization Platform Services is the central part of the Convergence (News - Alert) Services promoted by the company. Convergence Services leverage big data to help resolve business and global issues, generate new sources of value, and bring about a more prosperous society, company officials said.

The service integrates all technologies required to leverage big data including compound event processing and distributed parallel processing. These are integrated into the cloud platform, which is provided as a service. The solution allows the integration of different types of large data sets.

Data can be collected from different types of sensors, business-transaction logs, text data, and binary streams. Other types of data can be integrated for a variety of purposes to extract new value from them.

The cloud service is provided with a la carte options. Customers can start small with the service and expand as their business grows. Customers use and pay for only those resources they need, enabling them to optimize cost.

Beginning in the second quarter of fiscal 2012, the four components of Data Utilization Platform Services will be augmented by a Data Exchange Service and an Information Application Support Service.

To complement the big data management efforts and help customers generate new sources of value, Fujitsu is also launching Data Curation Services, through which it will provide support for new ways of leveraging data, including customer data analysis and its application to business operations. This is done through “curators,” a variety of specialized analytics tools, including mathematical or statistical data modeling, multivariate analysis and machine learning.

In a related announcement in the industry, Microsoft (News - Alert) recently announced a number of significant updates to its Azure cloud computing service, headlined by a built-in preview of the now open-source Apache Hadoop data analysis platform.

The Hadoop preview, first promised by Microsoft in October, will bolster Azure's big data capabilities by enabling developers to conduct analyses of unstructured data through familiar tools like Excel and PowerPivot, TMCnet reported.
