The Magic Quadrant tool used by Gartner (News - Alert) is designed to highlight technology players that are in a specific market and see how they fare within that arena. Research performed by the company evaluates different criteria and displays the results in a graphical quadrant with four types of technology providers.
The quadrants are made up of Leaders, Visionaries, Niche Players and Challengers.
West Corporation was placed in the quadrant labeled Leaders for Unified Communications (News - Alert)-as-a-Service (UCaaS) in North America.
West Corporation provides communications services with a range of communications and network infrastructure solutions. Its UCaaS platform offers conference and collaboration, client application integration, enterprise voice, messaging and presence and network management.
It gives organizations the tools they need to implement UCaaS without the expenses associated with on-premises infrastructure expenditures.
The cloud-based platform supports multiple integration of CRM and other tools used by customers for their day-to-day operations.

With three UCaaS solutions, West is able to deliver solutions that can address different market trends. They include:
- VoiceMaxx Architecture – provides cloud-based UC to global corporate clients
- VoiceMaxx CE – a suite of services based on Cisco Hosted Collaboration Solutions (HCS)
- MediaCloud – a Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync UC technologies for large-scale enterprise deployment
Vendors in the Leaders Magic Quadrant are established organizations that have been providing UCaaS service for more than one year. They have more than 100,000 total endpoint service and more than 1,000 clients. In short, companies placed in this quadrant provide the full range of services associated with UCaaS for a wide range of clients, including large accounts.
The quadrant also represents initiatives taken by these companies to broaden their reach by acquiring new clients with the solutions they provide in core UCaaS, as well as new serviceable areas.
Although the Magic Quadrant highlights the best in the industry in their respective fields, Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or services they offer. It also doesn’t advise technology users to choose the highest rated service providers.
The report concludes with positive expectation in the UCaaS market for 2013 citing – UcaaS will support global deployments in different geographical areas and the services of UCaaS will be adopted by today’s Fortune 1000 users in wide-ranging segments of their organization.
