TMC's 2015 Unified Communications Product of the Year Award Goes to Toshiba's UCedge

April 16, 2015

Today’s working environment is operating with a vastly different structure than a decade ago. Advances in mobile technology and cloud computing have introduced a world of collaboration and communications that is allowing businesses to offer their employees a flexible option so they can work from anywhere and anytime. A key piece of technology that is making this possible is unified communications (UC), which delivers a value proposition by bringing together a wide range of business processes in one comprehensive platform. In recognition of its UCedge unified communications solution, Toshiba (News - Alert) America Information Systems, Inc., has won the 2015 Unified Communications Product of the Year Award from TMC, a global, integrated media company.

With smartphones and tablets increasingly becoming an essential tool for employees, the UCedge platform Toshiba has created gives workers the ability to use these and other devices to work smarter, faster and more efficiently.

This single application allows users to communicate on Windows and Mac laptops and PCs, as well as Apple (News - Alert) and Android smartphones and tablets on the company’s cloud and on premises business telephone solutions. The UCedge client for mobile devices can be downloaded from Apple App Store and Google (News - Alert) Play, and the client for Windows and Mac computers is available from the Google Chrome Web Store.

“It gives me great pleasure to honor Toshiba with a 2015 Unified Communications Product of the Year Award for its innovative UCedge application, unified communications solution,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “Our judges were very impressed with the ingenuity and excellence displayed by Toshiba in UCedge.”

The UCedge solutions can be activated anytime to give users access to the Toshiba office phone system and unified communications to provide:

  • Personal or business mobile devices as a business phone extension.
  • Usability from up to three devices at the same time.
  • A single number no matter where you are: locally, nationally or internationally.
  • Manage office voice mails quickly and easily with a visual interface.
  • Long distance and international calls to contacts from a cell phone at landline rates.
  • Pair an iOS or Android (News - Alert) device with your desk phone to conveniently initiate dialing via the mobile device.
  • Use instant messaging (IM) if the person you are getting in touch with is busy or on the phone.
  • See the status of UCedge colleagues or Microsoft Lync Server users (via Federation) before calling them.

“We are honored to receive the 2015 Unified Communications Product of the Year Award for Toshiba's UCedge unified communications solution,” said Brian Metherell (News - Alert), vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. “UCedge gives users the power to communicate how, where and when they want, via smartphone, PC or tablet, by unifying their communications across platforms.”

As the demographic of the workforce continues to change, Millennials are having a bigger impact on the type of technologies companies must deploy in order to give them the necessary tools to be productive. According to a report released by Frost & Sullivan on the office of the future, this group will make up 75 percent of the U.S. workforce by 2025. The report went on to say an average user may use as many as four or more devices per day, which highlights the value of unified communications by bringing all these technologies together.
