Oracle Recognizes WestconGroup with 2015 Communications Excellence Award

WestconGroup announced recently that it received a 2015 Oracle (News - Alert) Communications Excellence Award. The effectiveness of a partner training program conducted by WestconGroup was the basis for receiving the recognition from Oracle.

Tarrytown, New York-based WestconGroup is a value-added distributor of communications technology. The company has many other offices across the globe.

Under the Westcon brand, WestconGroup provides UC and security solutions for the e-commerce, healthcare and government sectors. Under the Comstor (News - Alert) brand, WestconGroup provides networking infrastructure and data center solutions.

WestconGroup’s site provides a diagram giving a visual representation of its role in the distribution channel. On the left side is the vendor, which creates the technology, like Oracle or Cisco (News - Alert). In the middle is WestconGroup. On the right are the service providers and the resellers.

The channel strategy is all about relationships. As a distribution partner, WestconGroup takes on the responsibility of developing the channel. It gets strategy and branding from the vendor, and creates training programs to help resellers get up to speed with the technical aspects of solutions. WestconGroup also develops sales and marketing strategies to help partners get product out to more customers.

The Oracle Excellence Awards is an annual program that recognizes individuals and companies that drive Oracle technology. Because of the variety of solutions Oracle offers, numerous awards are given through the program.

Large tech companies like Oracle recognize the value of channels like the one formed by WestconGroup. While Oracle does provide consulting services, it’s probably not cost effective for them to do so, except with large, complex enterprise environments, but for Oracle to limit itself to serving only the big companies limits their bottom line.

Companies like WestconGroup and its partners that work downstream from Oracle in the channel can benefit greatly from their relationship with a big-name tech company; even more so when receiving an award. It’s a win-win relationship and the best way for the SMB sector to access the latest technology from a proven vendor.
