Iocom Talks Migrating to SaaS at ITEXPO: Interview

While attending the ITEXPO (News - Alert) East in Miami from Jan. 20-22, as a TMC Web Editor, I had the duty, and privilege, of sitting down with executives from top companies in the telecom industry to discuss various trends in their business, as well as how the show was going for them, and what to expect in the upcoming year.

One of the individuals I was privy to interview was Iocom’s Executive Vice President of Subscriptions and Hosted Services, J.W. Penland, who discussed the new product the company was exhibiting at the ITEXPO.

“Iocom is a software company, and we’ve developed a very innovative, multi-party conferencing and collaboration software,” Penland said. “So, we’ve been showing that application at the show.”

Well, how was it going for them, I asked?

Very well, apparently.

“We’ve been in business for 10 years, and we’ve sold traditional software, but we’re on the verge of launching Software-as-a-Service, and people have been very excited about the possibility of getting business class, multi-party, video conferencing collaboration, using a SaaS (News - Alert) model,” Penland said.

So, what made Iocom make the switch to SaaS?

“It was what the customers were asking for,” Penland said. “They really enjoyed our capability, but they didn’t want to install it in their data center, and manager and administer it. They asked us ‘can we just give you a credit card?’”
