Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS Provides Improved Security from E-mail Threats

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Webroot has released the latest version of Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS (News - Alert). This release contains a number of enhancements to provide improved protection from latest email threats.

The enhanced version supports enforcement of usage policies and also simplifies the management of critical email communications. Webroot provides best-of-breed security solutions for consumers, businesses, enterprises etc. to protect their corporate information and personal assets from online threats.

The current economic scenario is taking its toll on the already strained IT resources of organizations. Even in these situations, security is paramount and should be improved periodically to accommodate the changing threat scenario. As per the results of a study conducted by Webroot, 21 percent of email security decision makers stated that they were thinking of layoffs.

Forty percent of the decision makers are postponing the purchase of both software and hardware and 44 percent have already decided on a hiring freeze due to the unfavorable economic conditions.

The latest release of Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS is available as a free upgrade for all existing customers. It provides improved security features without the expense often associated with software and hardware solutions. The enhanced version also provides greater user and group management by automating end user email accounts and settings management.

Administrators have been provided with multiple disclaimer prevention features. With this feature, disclaimers appended to email messages can be identified and limited which will help to eliminate identical strings of disclaimers.

A new feature available in Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS is image filter which improves detection of solicited pornographic images. The Deep Content Scanning feature provides enhanced data loss protection by scanning inbound and outbound email file attachments.

Exposure of confidential information and data loss through email communications is reduced by inspecting the content embedded in file attachments. A customizable rules engine is also present to create and enforce content and event based email policies.

According to Peter Watkins, the CEO of Webroot, “Security delivered as a service is an effective means of reducing total cost of ownership and maximizing limited resources. It allows organizations to focus on business critical functions rather than having to worry about the continuous management and expenses associated with traditional hardware or software solutions”. In addition to protection against spam and viruses, Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS also provides compliance, archiving and business continuity features.
