HP's New Service-Delivery Platform to Help Service Providers Realize New Web 2.0 Revenue Opportunities

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

HP has announced that the newly released HP Service Delivery Platform 3.0 features a virtual ‘sandbox’ that can be used by developers to make new Web-based applications, widgets and mash-ups on the service provider’s wireless network.

The new SDP is designed to make service creation easy and rewarding for independent developers.

HP claimed that the new powerful telecom software is capable of unleashing the creative energy of developers and help service providers to tap Web 2.0 functionalities to realize new revenue opportunities.

The SDP solution shortens time to market with new niche services, reduces deployment risks and complexities, simplifies service interaction and eases service management. All of these benefits positively impact revenues and reduce costs. By attracting non-telecom independent software developers and giving them the tools to build innovative applications, service providers can enrich their wireless networks with the personalized services that subscribers want – and are willing to pay for monthly.

Ottavio Carparelli, director of communications and media solutions at HP, has stated that utilizing HP SDP 3.0 puts service providers in a better position to tap into new Web 2.0 revenue opportunities. According to HP, major service providers know that SDPs must now be enriched with vibrant service creation ecosystems. Creative application developers are the key, and HP SDP 3.0 is designed to attract armies of them.

For its SDP 3.0 release, HP added several key new components, including a “RESTful” gateway that makes it easier for telecom developers to integrate with Web 2.0 services. And the new SDP “Next Generation Intelligent Network” enabler helps developers to tap into data in video, subscriber databases such as the HLR/HSS, network address books, profile management and real-time service control.

HP has also added new service orchestration capabilities in HP SDP 3.0, which provide tools and workflow to help build composite services and helps service providers deliver services more quickly and easily.

The new “Revenue Management Module” enables service providers to monetize their network assets and partner relationships with a revenue-sharing model for partners and Web 2.0 developers.

HP has stated that the new tools were built on the standards-based service-oriented architecture that reduces costs and complexity by replacing multiple service silos with a single, unified resource layer.

HP recently launched Snapfish for digital photos and partnered with Verizon (News - Alert) to develop CaaS solution.
