VirtenSys, a company that develops patented Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Express-based I/O virtualization technologies for servers and storage platforms, announced recently that it has successfully delivered the pre-production units of its I/O Virtualization (IOV) Switch to reputed server and storage customers.
I/O Virtualization is a process which involves the separation of I/O resources, consolidation of the I/O resources into pools, and virtualization, a functional transparency where "virtual" I/O devices in the servers are created.

Houssein mentioned that the company is extremely happy to have delivered these solutions to its customers. According to Houssein, the company’s cost-effective IOV products can de deployed in any IT infrastructure and across all vertical market segments.
“The benefits of I/O virtualization can be realized in all data centers, from very small implementations to large scale deployments,” added Houssein.
VirtenSys IOV systems consist of silicon components, software, and hardware integrated into systems that can be matched to a broad range of data center usage models. The system was developed specifically to reduce data center operational expense and complexity by virtualizing all the I/O resources used to connect servers and storage platforms to the networks.
In addition, VirtenSys claims to be the first to market IOV products based on the PCI Express bus available in every server.
Virtualized operating systems can leverage the capabilities of IOV to further improve data centers operations. I/O Virtualization also enables the rapid adoption of new usage models and IT services such as green IT, cloud computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (

Crosby believes that such a solution will allow customers to maximize their consolidation ratios and virtualize high performance, high bandwidth enterprise applications.
VirtenSys IOV switches consolidate and virtualize standard I/O adapters and share them among multiple physical and virtualized servers, without requiring any changes be made to the servers, operating systems, I/O adapters, or device drivers. The systems can be deployed immediately without disruption to existing data center servers, networks or management processes.
The company’s IOV Switches are available in both rack-mount and blade server form-factors, and production units are expected to be offered by VirtenSys customers to end-users within the next six to nine months.
