SimpleSignal Deploys U4EA's MSBGs to Deliver VoIP, Unified Communications



Today’s communications innovation is bringing new capabilities — capabilities that only a few years ago were unimaginable to many — that are allowing more service providers than ever before to prosper, even during economic turmoil. At the same time, delivering these new services presents service providers with challenges that also were unimaginable a few years ago. Namely, how can they deliver unified communications services to a growing customer base — including managing QoS, reliability, and security — while ensuring connectivity across new next generation networks as well as legacy infrastructures, not to mention interoperability with the various endpoints available to users? Let’s not forget this all has to happen with an ever brightening spotlight on budgets.
 
To answer that question, many providers are adopting MSBGs (multi-service business gateways) to ensure they can deliver voice, video, and data services to subscribers, like the Fusion series of MSBGs from U4EA Technologies. MSGBs are a combination routing and switching engine, session controller, media gateway, and security element, designed to simplify service deployment and lower time to market while improving service delivery capabilities.
 
SimpleSignal, which provides hosted PBX, SIP Trunking, and Unified Communications (News - Alert) services to the SMB market, and is ultimately in the game to voice enable any software application (the CaaS model that is quickly gaining popularity, was in this very position.  It needed to ensure it is able to keep pace with its development efforts and customer requirements, and be able to quickly introduce new revenue generating services, without sacrificing service quality, including its SimplyMobile hosted service, which it introduced last year. Simply Mobile combines its hosted PBX (News - Alert) with hosted MS Exchange to enable mobile and remote access to not only phone features, but also email and calendar functions.
 
To accomplish that, it chose U4EA’s (News - Alert) Fusion series MSBGs to deliver its hosted VoIP and SIP Trunking services. In addition to the multiple functions contained in the MSBG, the Fusion series also includes U4EA’s patented QoS features — including nine application-aware layers of QoS — and management functions, all in one device. Not only does a single device to deliver all these features simplify deployment, it also eases service management tasks and increases SimpleSignal’s ability to maintain service levels to any endpoint. The Fusion series also integrates easily with the BroadSoft switch used by SimpleSignal.
 
SimpleSignal chose the U4EA solution after a rigorous testing and analysis program, and found the Fusion MSBGs delivered greater bandwidth optimization for increased quality of delivery of real-time multimedia communications applications. With the growth of the IP Communications market, and as more and more businesses and service providers migrate to IP infrastructures, it becomes increasingly important for both providers and their customers to be able to develop efficient networking solutions.
 
“Our Wireless, QoS and bandwidth management solutions let companies make better utilization of their existing LAN/WAN bandwidth, while also taking advantage of UC applications like VoIP and Video,” explained Jim Greenway, vice president of Worldwide Marketing at U4EA in an interview with TMC president Rich Tehrani (News - Alert).
 
According to U4EA, it provides nearly a threefold increase in WAN optimization over competitive solutions — which translates into significant network infrastructure savings because customers don’t need to pay for a second or third T1 line (that’s a monthly savings of $400 or more). 
 
“The quality of service delivered by the Fusion Series is impressive, as its QoS effectively controls both latency and loss,” said Dave Gilbert, president of SimpleSignal.  “U4EA has wrapped this functionality into a UC-friendly gateway that is extremely intuitive and easy to set up.”
 
In fact, Ken Epps, U4EA’s CEO recently explained separately to Tehrani that the future of the communications space lies in ubiquitous communications, such as what SimpleSignal is delivering. 
 
“That is the ongoing evolution of the communications sector,” he said.

For SimpleSignal, that evolution includes driving communications to any application its customers are using to allow them to launch calls directly from those applications, rather than having to go through additional manual steps to place calls. It’s effectively taking the click-to-call model from the Web to the overall application environment, creating significant business process efficiencies. As Simple Signal says, it’s about making communications easy. The new MSBGs from U4EA will make it easier to make that a reality.
