Packet Island Intros SaaS-based Sniffer Product

Cupertino, California-based Packet Island, Inc. has reportedly unveiled a new SaaS (News - Alert)-based sniffer product, PacketPro. A robust remote VoIP Lifecycle Management and Packet Sniffing solution PacketPro allows managed service providers and IT outsourcing companies to remotely troubleshoot problems in their customers’ networks.

PacketPro bundles up a 4″x 5″ micro-appliance in a portable kit that can be shipped to a customer site that is encountering network problems. PacketPro can be used as a remote sniffer thanks to Packet Island’s (News - Alert) hosted service.

The micro-appliance seamlessly captures network traffic snapshots from customer sites. The solution also allows users to troubleshoot complex voice-video-data problems by decoding over 750 protocols using Ethereal/Wireshark. Another functionality of PacketPro is that it can perform VoIP assessments to detect problems in LAN/WAN capacity. The solution can monitor VoIP round the clock in order to characterize transient problems. Finally, it can also use on-demand reports to help isolate the nature and source of complex VoIP problems

Before the introduction of PacketPro, service providers and VARs used to take network sniffer to every customer site to troubleshoot complex problems. They would spend hours waiting at the site for the problem to re-occur.

PacketPro has changed things for the better. The plug-and-play PacketPro kit can be easily sent to the customer site and the service providers and VARs can troubleshoot remotely. Being a SaaS-based service, PacketPro comes in particularly handy where large volumes of data have to be collected and analyzed without user supervision.

Companies deploying PacketPro can also cut HR costs as a few experts at the corporate headquarters can provide nationwide support on complex voice-video-data issues.

Established in 2004, Packet Island Inc. specializes in the development of SaaS-based solutions and platform solution for managing the lifecycle of converged media networks. Last year, TMCnet had reported that Packet Island has introduced an On-Demand Network Monitoring Solution for Providers Serving SMBs.
