TMCnet CaaS Week in Review

It’s that day of the week again! Let’s take a few minutes to reconvene and review the latest developments in the CaaS Community.

Thanks to the cloud, working from home has never been easier, even during disasters. Despite the nasty snow storm last week that knocked power wires out and trapped people in their homes for nearly three days, businesses operating in the cloud were able to continue conducting business as usual with their employees working safely from home. Since cloud-based technologies exist in the cloud, along with telephone systems, there is no equipment that needs to be managed on the ground, reducing manual labor and the risk of being physically damaged, which is one of the many benefits.

The cloud has become a widely accepted solution for business, and now it has even become a popular among the employees. According to CDW (News - Alert) LLC’s 2013 State of the Cloud report, 68 percent of organizations say employee requests for cloud services have increased within the past two years. In the workplace, 39 percent of organization have implement cloud solutions, up from 28 percent last year, with cost savings growing from 10 to 13 percent in the It department, it seems like it is becoming one of the most favored solutions on the market.

With the demand so high for the cloud, Amdoc launched a new unified communications solution that combines all the necessary messaging services for the work place, including VoIP and video calling, into a single app.

Since many security issues have risen because of increased mobility usage and BYOD trend, companies have begun to create software that will protect users’ devices. Redmond, Washington-based security provider, Codeproof Technologies Inc., released an updated version of its mobile security and mobile device management (MDM) Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings. The new software update is the first ever cloud-based SaaS security, and is now available to secure and manage the iPhone (News - Alert), iPad and Android devices.

Sigma Systems also announced that its Sigma Cloud ServiceBroker will be used by Columbus International Inc (Columbus) to help manage its delivery of SaaS (News - Alert) and IaaS services to its (SMB) customers. The Barbados-based Columbus delivers digital cable television, broadband Internet and digital landline telephone services to residential and business markets to over 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. By using the Sigma ServiceBroker, Columbus will be able to create faster and better quality services to users in dozens of countries.
