Viju Partners with Microsoft as Surface Hub Demand Skyrockets

Microsoft (News - Alert) announced recently that it had made Viju a Microsoft Surface Hub partner based on the latter’s track record as a vendor of collaborative video solutions, including Surface Hub. The partnership should be a boon for Viju, as Surface Hub is in hot demand.
Based in Stavanger, Norway, Viju is a global reseller of visual communications solutions with 13 offices in seven countries. In addition to the Surface Hub partnership with Microsoft, Viju has industry accreditations with Cisco (News - Alert), SMART, Crestron, InfoComm, ISO9001, PRINCE2, ITIL, and Achilles.
Demand for the Surface Hub has been so high since Microsoft started taking orders on July 1st, that the company announced on a blog that it will not start shipping units on September 1st, the original shipping date. Revised shipping dates will be announced sometime in August.
Surface Hub is available in two models that resemble large-screen TVs.
- The deluxe unit has an 84-inch display, selling for $19,999;
- A low-end model is a 55-inch display selling for $6,999.
The units will be manufactured at a company-owned facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, where nearly everything but the LCD panel will be built.
It’s easy to understand why demand is so high for these devices; they take meetings and collaborations to an entirely different level. You can draw on the screen with a pen device; manipulate graphics by touching the screen with your hand, and save content after the conclusion of the meeting. High resolution cameras, noise cancelling microphones, and a superior display all add to the experience.
This has the potential to change the way that meetings are conducted. Anyone who has worked in an office for any length of time can appreciate how unproductive the traditional meeting can be. A few people control the floor and talk about matters that most of the group is not interested in while the rest of the attendees become anaesthetized.
With Surface Hub, there is no more sleeping in the back row. Everyone can collaborate and meetings become a great, productive experience. It might be too soon to say something like this, but Surface Hub could have a revolutionary effect on meetings as the iPhone (News - Alert) did on mobile devices.
Part of Microsoft’s strategy in spreading the word of Surface Hub is to create thousands of partnerships with companies that resell and service the product. This might seem to dilute the benefits of partnership from Viju’s perspective, but if Surface Hub continues to be this popular, there will be plenty of wealth to go around.
