Ovi Store by Nokia Now Available to AT&T Customers

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Ovi Store by Nokia (News - Alert) is now available to AT&T customers who are using the Nokia E71x, Nokia Surge, Nokia Mural, Nokia 6650, Nokia 6555 or Nokia 6350. Support for more devices will soon follow. Ovi Store is Nokia's one-stop-shop for free and paid content. It supports a number of device types from smartphones to feature phones.

AT&T (News - Alert) customers with the select Nokia devices will be able to download free and paid content from Ovi Store. In addition, customers will be able to charge their paid content purchases directly to their monthly AT&T bill. In order to get started, AT&T customers need to go to the Ovi Store from their Nokia device from AT&T. As soon as a customer enters the online Ovi Store, he will be prompted to download the Ovi Store application.

In a release, David Petts, vice president and general manager of AT&T accounts, Nokia, said the company is pleased to bring the content available through Ovi Store by Nokia to AT&T customers with a convenient billing solution. Ovi Store provides consumers with mobile content and applications from recognized developers and publishers from around the world. The “carrier billing” feature from Nokia facilitates app purchases to show up on the AT&T customer’s phone bill instead of being charged directly to a credit card. Petts added that Nokia is thrilled to deliver compelling content to AT&T customers with a payment solution that simplifies both access and use.

Ovi Store includes a “social discovery” feature for users to activate. Once this feature is activated, content used by their social network peers will be highlighted automatically and made available for download. In addition, Ovi Store will target users with tailored content, based on the users current locations. This helps to enhance the social discovery feature further, thereby ensuring that users will first see the content that’s most relevant to them.

Most of the content industry's providers along with independent application developers distribute their media, applications and games through the Ovi Store by Nokia. At present, Ovi Store is available to users in more than 180 countries, in 30 languages and across 100 Nokia device models.
